Fall Arrest & Restraint Systems (Horizontal)

Fall Arrest & Restraint Systems (Horizontal)

Commonly referred to as ‘mansafe’ a lifeline system can consist of many different types of design and manufacture. Most are wire cable systems strung between specialist designed posts that will deploy in the event of someone falling whilst attached to the system. These are most often found on the roofs of buildings and often used to allow safe access to gutters in order to clean them or to service and maintain plant and equipment such as air conditioning units.

Fall Arrest Lifeline Systems (Vertical)

Fall Arrest Lifeline Systems (Vertical)

Much like the previously mentioned horizontal systems, vertical systems still often referred to as ‘mansafe systems’ come in varying types of styles and designs. Wire cable systems are used in vertical fall arrest systems but equally so are rail systems. These consist of a metal rail with a channel built in to it which a shuttle device or traveller engages. These are great for use on fixed access ladders of all heights either external to a building in order to safety access a roof level, or used on high level mast or water tower etc. Equally these systems are just as good for internal fixed ladders for warehouse, storage areas or whatever else you may need safe access too.

Freestanding Mobile Roof Anchor Posts

Freestanding Mobile Roof Anchor Posts

These systems make a great alternative to a permanent fall arrest or restraint lifeline system. With no need to fix to the roof structure you avoid most of the issues associated with that. Freestanding mobile roof anchors are unsurprisingly often found on flat roofs for safe access or work positioning in order to undertake maintenance or inspection works ie gutter cleaning or roof repair.

Rope Access Anchor Points

Rope Access Anchor Points

These anchor points are usually located at a roof level. They are used by rope access operatives to tie ropes off in order to enable them to abseil down the building or structure. Due to this they come under LOLER and require a 6 monthly inspection.

Guardrail & Handrail (Fixed & Free-standing)

Guardrail & Handrail (Fixed & Free-standing)

Edge protection is a requirement when working at height, if a Lifeline (mansafe) system is not an option or in an area which has plenty of use then Guardrail is a great alternative. Guardrail can be either fixed in place or used as a freestanding system, much like the freestanding mobile anchor posts mentioned above. Again with the freestanding weighted systems you achieve the required edge protection without the need to drill, cut or fix etc into your roofing membrane. Guardrail is very useful on a building or high level area that has lots of plant and equipment or another requirement for people to access the area on regular basis.

Safety Eyebolts

Safety Eyebolts

Safety eyebolts can be found in any location that falls could occur, they are probably most commonly used at the side of windows in office blocks to enable window cleaners to safely restrain themselves with a lanyard and harness whilst leaning out and cleaning. They can also be useful for transferring from fixed access ladders onto Fall arrest safety systems at roof levels using twin tail lanyards to ensure you are always connect to something when working at height.

Ladder Hooks

Ladder Hooks

Ladder hooks are a simple but very useful product used to tie off mobile ladders for safe working. A set of straps are fixed to the ladder and intern fixed to the ladder hooks (sometimes called ladder ties) ladder hooks can be resin fixed to almost any structure and positioned in areas that mobile ladders will be required. So as with eyebolts these will often be used by window cleanings.

Personal Protection User Equipment

Personal Protection User Equipment

Whilst the term PPE covers a whole range of products, the types of products Horizon inspect and sell are those associated with working at height. So safety harness and Lanyards or specialist rescue equipment for those working at height or for rescue from confined spaces etc. Many of these products can be found in Horizon's online shop but for specialist equipment or advice on what may suit your particular situation please contact us and we would be happy to advise.

Vacuum Anchors

Vacuum Anchors

A vacuum anchor is a specialist product often used in industries when it’s not possible to fix to the structure like a traditional Fall arrest / restraint post and system. Ideal for aerospace industry & similar applications. For more detail on this and other specialist systems please get in touch.
