'On-line' Chimney Repairs

PROBLEM: Repairs Required On Process Stack Which Cannot Be Taken Offline

SITE: Steelworks

PROJECT: Undertake Concrete Repairs to Top of ‘Live' Chimney

SOLUTION: Design and Installation of a Heatshield

DETAILS: Repairs were required urgently at the top

of a concrete process stack. Unfortunately the stack couldn't be taken offline thus preventing operatives from working at the top due to obnoxious and hot gasses. To overcome the problem, Horizon designed and installed a heatshield at the head of the chimney. This diverted the gasses to exit above the level where the repairs had to be carried out. The installation and removal of the heatshield was done safely and on time without any loss of production. Whilst the heatshield was in position the repairs were successfully completed to programme. Heatshields of the type used for this project can be designed for specific stacks including also brick and steel.
