Selected Case Study - Roof Access - St. Pancras Station PROBLEM: Access for Personnel and Material

SITE: St. Pancras Station, London

PROJECT: Remove Complete Roofing Membrane Covering The Main Station

SOLUTION: Design and Installation of a Catenary System

Due to the height and shape of the main platform shed at St. Pancras Station it presented engineers with a major problem when considering how the roof membrane and ancillary walkways etc. could be safely dismantled. Horizon were able to plan-in a catenary system capable of transporting the dismantled material from any part of the roof to a loading platform which was also designed by Horizon's technical team. The design, using a wire-rope and pulley scheme, also incorporated a fall-arrest system to provide safe access and egress to the operatives engaged in the project. The task to find a solution was made more difficult by the fact the famous landmark is a grade ‘A' listed building. Horizon's approach using ‘Height Technology' has ensured a safe system capable of meeting the programme necessary for the successful completion of the Channel Tunnel High-Speed Rail Link.
